Dillanos Coffee Review : Coffee Giveaway

; Dillanos Coffee Dillanos Coffee Roasters began in 1992, and is based in Sumner, Washington. What began as a single coffee cart, has blossomed into a national, specialty coffee brand. From time to time over the past year, I’ve found a little surprise in my mailbox, a bag or two of Dillanos coffee. Things I Would Like to See Improved in Specialty Coffee (2017)

Things I Would Like to See Improved in Specialty Coffee (2017)

Before I go into what I see as the problems with specialty coffee, I will provide some background on myself. In addition to being the publisher of INeedCoffee, I am a huge fan of going to coffee shops. In the last ten years, I have been to several hundred different cafes, mostly in Seattle but also in the San Francisco Bay Area, Portland, Vancouver and Victoria. I’ve seen the rise of third wave coffee and I’ve loved the journey. In Seattle, I organize a Meetup group that does nothing but explore the coffee scene. We’ve had over 1,000 Meetups in the last 11 years visiting over 350 different coffee venues. In other words, I am a huge fan. Although I do …Continue Reading

Build-Outs Of Summer: Not Just Coffee in Charlotte, North Carolina

Build-Outs Of Summer: Not Just Coffee in Charlotte, North Carolina

The food and beverage scene in the Carolinas is booming, and so its no surprise that one of this season’s first Builds would hail from the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. In the fall of 2015 we ran this feature on the Charlotte coffee scene, and in the years since the city’s coffee scene has continued to grow. Today we’ll take a look at what much-loved local chain Not Just Coffee‘s got planned for their fourth location, opening in late-August/early-September in the historic Dillworth neighborhood. It seems like a good time to be a Charlottean. As told to Sprudge by James Yoder. For those who aren’t familiar, will…Continue Reading

Full of beautiful landscapes and interesting cities, most people (at least the ones I run into) seem to overlook Chicago's northern neighbor. The same tends to go for Wisconsin coffee, as America's Dairyland is home to quite a few great roasters such as Kickapoo, Colectivo and the subject of today's post, Anodyne.Read more »Continue Reading

Cold Brew Coffee Cupcakes With Mocha Buttercream Frosting Recipe

Cold Brew Coffee Cupcakes With Mocha Buttercream Frosting Recipe

I’ll admit I that I have two vices in this world and both aren’t particularly healthy in large quantities, yes my name is Mark, and I’m addicted to coffee and cupcakes! I am a HUGE coffee addict, ask anyone and they will tell you that they never see me without a cup of coffee in my hand, damn if I could I would be hooked up 24/7 to a coffee IV drip! So when my wife decided to bake a batch of coffee cupcakes with mocha butterscotch frosting I literally started doing cartwheels; the best of both worlds I thought, and I wasn’t disappointed. For any coffee lover, …Continue Reading

All Are Welcome: Melbourne’s New Every Day Coffee And Viennoiserie

All Are Welcome: Melbourne’s New Every Day Coffee And Viennoiserie

Melbourne is a funny little place: Years ago residents were constantly lamenting about the difficulty of finding delicious full meals—breakfast, lunch, dinner—alongside delicious coffee. These days, it seems like the city’s famous for doing both things, but when you want a simple, quality baked good with a great coffee, you often need to visit two separate venues (unless you really vibe on a classic Australian iced long black). After years of thinking about potentially starting a bakery with a solid coffee offering to fill that gap, Aaron Maxwell (pictured above) had a serendipitous introduction to Boris Portnoy in 2015. At the time Portnoy was working as a pastry …Continue Reading

Instead of hitting the butcher, the farmers market and the dry goods emporium, folks could get it all in one shot. While I am a strong advocate of shopping at specialty vendors (ie I love going to a butcher), in practice I absolutely see the value in convenience, so when quality small businesses team up to share a location, my heart soars.Read more »Continue Reading

Red Espresso is Espresso Style Rooibos

Red Espresso is Espresso Style Rooibos

I recently received something interesting to review. It is a product called Red Espresso. Red Espresso is a finely ground rooibos, which can be used to make a concentrated “espresso.” Before I begin the review, let us bring everyone up to speed on what rooibos is. Rooibos is not a coffee – nor, technically, is it a tea, although it is sometimes known as “bush tea” or “red tea” or “redbush tea”. Tea comes from the camellia sinensis plant. Rooibos actually comes from the legume family. It originates in South Africa, and it has no caffeine and an antioxidant level that far exceeds tea or coffee. Prepare the …Continue Reading

Scenes From The Cafe Imports Legendary Coffee Tour

Scenes From The Cafe Imports Legendary Coffee Tour

What’s the sound of sixty coffee cuppers slurping? It’s a symphony, that’s what. I marveled in its glory at the Cafe Imports Legendary Coffee Tour stop in Denver, Colorado, where coffee enthusiasts packed the Huckleberry Coffee roasting works for an evening of talks, pizza, beer, and coffee. This was the last slurp of the Cafe Imports event tour that made stops in Toronto, Miami, Tampa, and Indianapolis. The afternoon cupping was a sensory explosion of tastes, smells, and sounds. Director of Education Joe Marrocco lead the coffee tasting exercise and implored guests to keep opinions and reactions to themselves and most importantly not to “talk with your …Continue Reading
